Since 2012, Fernando has served as an ambassador for the Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities. They currently support 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries, with soccer as their most popular sport.

Highlights

• Participates in clinics and events both in the U.S. and abroad that help various athletes with special needs develop their capabilities and sports skills.

• Fernando was one of the faces of “Come Make A Difference”, a Special Olympics soccer event, where he was joined by World Cup legends Teófilo Cubillas, Enrique Borja, Pavel Pardo and Luis Carlos Perea.

• Took part in a unity match, a match played between ex-players with great experience, special guests, and athletes with disabilities.

For more than 15 years, Fernando has been involved with Fundacion Amor y Vida in association with Rotagol. Rotagol is the largest event held by the Rotary Club of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Rotagol’s goal is to bring awareness to the societal issues and non-profit organizations through the community’s love of soccer.

Highlights

• Partnered with Fundacion Amor y Vida, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing love, protection and care to children infected with HIV/AIDS.

• During Rotagol’s early years, Fernando helped to organize a fundraising gala in Miami, where they raised enough money to purchase a van in Honduras to transport children.

• Fernando also worked with the United States Ambassador in Honduras to secure visas for 35 children to travel to the U.S. and visit Disney World.

Fernando is an Honorary President of ROTAGOL HONDURAS. For over a decade he’s been actively participating in this annual soccer celebrity game with the objective of collecting funds for the needy children in Honduras. ( FUNDACIÓN AMOR Y VIDA, San Pedro Sula)
